Reference video
Starting position
Lying on the back, arms extended overhead, legs straight and together.
Correct technique
Straight legs and torso rise together, hands touch the feet or shins, then return to the start.
Required range of motion
At the top the body folds into a "V" and the hands reach the feet. At the bottom the shoulder blades and heels touch the floor.
What counts
A repetition counts when the legs and torso rise together, the hands reach the feet, and the body fully returns down.
What does not count
Not counted: bent knees, lifting the legs and torso separately, no hand-to-foot contact, an incomplete return, and repetitions after the end signal.
Filming requirements
The athlete stays fully visible from head to feet for the whole attempt. One continuous take, no cuts or editing. The camera does not move. A timer must be visible in frame, or the start and end signals audible. Film from the side at floor level so the lift of the torso and legs is visible.
Common mistakes
Bent knees
The knees bend to let the hands reach the feet.
Incomplete return
The shoulder blades do not touch the floor between repetitions.
