Reference video
Starting position
Standing on the left leg, the right leg extended forwards and off the floor, arms free in front.
Correct technique
Squat on the left leg until the thigh of the supporting leg goes below parallel to the floor, then straighten the leg fully at the top.
Required range of motion
Thigh below parallel at the bottom, knee fully extended at the top.
What counts
A repetition counts with full depth and full extension, no hand support and no contact between the free foot and the floor.
What does not count
Not counted: insufficient depth, the right foot touching the floor, a hand supported on a wall, chair or knee, a loss of balance ending in a fall, and repetitions after the end signal.
Filming requirements
The athlete stays fully visible from head to feet for the whole attempt. One continuous take, no cuts or editing. The camera does not move. A timer must be visible in frame, or the start and end signals audible. Film from the side so the knee angle and torso position are visible.
Common mistakes
Not deep enough
The thigh does not go below parallel to the floor.
Hand support
The athlete leans on a wall, a chair or their own knee.
