Reference video

Starting position

Lying face down, arms stretched forwards, legs straight and together, forehead touching the floor.

Correct technique

Chest, arms and straight legs lift off the floor at the same time, then return to the start.

Required range of motion

At the top the chest and thighs are off the floor with the legs straight. At the bottom the arms and legs touch the floor.

What counts

A repetition counts when the upper and lower body lift together and fully return to the starting position.

What does not count

Not counted: lifting only the torso or only the legs, bent knees, no return to the start position, and repetitions after the end signal.

Filming requirements

The athlete stays fully visible from head to feet for the whole attempt. One continuous take, no cuts or editing. The camera does not move. A timer must be visible in frame, or the start and end signals audible. Film from the side at floor level so the lift of the torso and legs is visible.

Common mistakes

  • Only the upper body works

The legs stay on the floor, so the repetition is not counted.

  • Bent knees

The knees bend to make the lift easier.
